One of the highlights of DJ Nicon’s career was to perform in front of a crowd of 30,000 people. Nico Stojan, former DJ Nicon, born in Berlin, experienced this several times already while perfor- ming at the Rock im Park / Rock am Ring Festivals as well as at the Splash! Festival (biggest Hip- Hop festival. Each time he worked as tour DJ for the headliner Kool Savas(biggest Hip-Hop star in Germany), whom he has supported during his live performances for more than six years. His DJ career started when he convinced his uncle, who owned a club, to let him have the Technics 1210 equipment no longer in use. DJ Nicon started to record mix-tapes and soon he was ready to work in clubs as a DJ. His career took shape after he changed from turntablism to club DJ-ing. In 2000 he was hired by Kool Savas as permanent tour DJ. His popularity has grown due to his 250 solo gigs and more than 200 performances with Kool Savas as well as his TV performances on MTV, VIVA, The Dome and Stefan Raab’s TV Total. Nicon also became internationally known, his sets can now be heard in Switzerland and Austria on a regular basis. He even traveled to Shanghai and Hong Kong to show his talents as a DJ. His success had him booked for the legendary after- show parties given by Eminem, 50 Cent, Busta Rhymes, Kanye West and The Roots. DJ Nicon is, of course, still available for the less prominent audiences. He tours world-wide and still has time to spin as a resident DJ at the “Insel” in Berlin and at the “Bounce87” in Leipzig. Here he handles the “Berlin City Night” on a regular basis. Because so much talent and creativity de- mands it’s own outlet, DJ Nicon has participated in developing Kool Savas’ label, Optik Records, right from the start. Here he published his mix-tapes with a higher beat. He also became interested in producing and started to experiment with his own beats, which already appeared on many Optik Records releases. His own mix-tape series “Optische Elemente” – the current part 2,5 shows the support for German productions - represents only a small part of his creativity. For that he was ho- nored by Juice-Magazin last year and received an award for “Best DJ National”, what is another highlight in DJ Nicon's career, but it certainly will not be his last.
