What does the future for DJ-ing hold? For DJ Katch of Frankfurt this future means a seamless transition of producing and DJ-ing . He offers the club crowd a new and unusual listening experience with his exclusive edits and remixes. Every turntable artist has more or less the same material available, but thanks to DJ Katch’s excessive joy in his own productions and because of the technical possibilities of the “Serato Scratch Live” system he uses more than 50 percent of his own remixes which can be heard exclusively in his sets. This unusual experience in the club is based on his career which began in his basement studio at home during his teenage years where DJ Katch used his brother’s records and messed around with sounds and transitions. During his year in the US as an exchange high school student DJ Katch learned about the second main pillar of his art: the ability to keep a party going on high intensity, to keep people in motion and to bring them into a frenzy. Knowing this, he was able to take on his first resident jobs in Frankfurt in 1998 and at the same time the Hip Hop label 3P – at that time the hottest Hip Hop label in the Germany - started to pay attention to him. From this time on DJ Katch has used both main pillars of his art. He produced and remixed for artists like Glashaus (goldselling R&B act), Kool Savas (Sony/ BMG / No.1 Rapper in Germany) and Sabina Setlur (Sony/BMG / goldselling female Rapper) whose chart hit “Baby” is based on his beat. In addition to this he had several residencies at local venues, toured with VIVA Tv’s “Club R&B” (Germany’s biggest music Tv channel), opened up the live shows of international artists such as The Roots, Xzibit, Common and was the live DJ of his own crew “Freunde der Sonne” consisting of Kool Savas & Illmat!c. During this development he produced not only beats but also his own mixtape series “Ear 2 The Street”, which Juice Magazin (biggest Urban magazine in Europe) awarded third place of the most popular tapes. Together with Kool Savas he produced the “John Bello Story” CD which became the bestselling German Rap-Mix /CD of all times. He received international attention with his latest mixtape “Terror Era” which resulted from the cooperation with Fat Joe’s legendary New York crew “Terror Squad” (SRC/ Universal). In 2007 he was the first european Dj / producer to join the Crooklyn Clan Allstars (www.crooklynclan.net), a collective of the hottest partybreak & remix producers worldwide. Besides all his productions one should not forget that DJ Katch belongs to the best club DJs in the country. The proof for this can be seen in the legendary and world- famous Cocoon Club every Saturday evening. Here he has rocked the dance floor since 2004. Star-DJ Sven Väth himself, owner of the Cocoon Club, singled DJ Katch out to work as resident at the club. His fans were happy about this decision so that they could dance to his versatile and innovative sets into the early morning hours following the motto: ”Take it to the next level”.
